A Playdate with Purpose: Walking to End Hydrocephalus

It’s never too young to teach your children about love and compassion. Showing them to not be afraid to spread a positive message. To be able to experience the joys of being a good humanitarian. A charity playdate is a good opportunity to meet new families, have meaningful conversations, and engage in positive activities.

“Moms Who Playdate” will be partnering with “Sweet Baby Bliss” along with our followers to participate in this year’s Hydrocephalus Association Detroit Walk. We will be joining the Hydrocephalus Association (HA) and the local hydrocephalus community as we band together to support the largest non-profit organization dedicated solely to hydrocephalus. Please join us in our goal to help raise awareness, along with funds critically needed for hydrocephalus research.

This year Sweet Baby Bliss and I, will be representing the Lawton family, as we help their son Amour Lawton (Team Blessed) raise money for research.

Amour was diagnosed with hydrocephalus at 6 months. He had his 1st brain surgery in September 2015, during hydrocephalus awareness month. Brain surgery is Amour’s only treatment option. The Lawton family has been supporting this special cause for the past 4 years, even before amour was born. The parent’s stated:

“He surprised us with the pregnancy on our 4 year wedding Anniversary. Best gift ever! We named Amour at the 2014 Hydrocephalus Walk. So it’s no coincidence why this cause is so dear to our hearts”.

We are very proud to be supporting the Lawton family, and extremely honored to be walking with "Team Blessed".

Pamper Playdate!

I hope everyone enjoyed their mother’s day. However, the pampering doesn’t have to stop here. Being showered with love from your family and friends is the best part of mother’s day. But let’s admit, the pampering makes a mom feel that much more special. Why not plan a special playdate, where both you and your little ones can feel like royalty. Enjoy a playdate filled with facials, mini massages, healthy snacks, fun stories, and arts and crafts. The good thing about a pamper playdate, is that you can be as creative as you like. Moms I would strongly suggest having extra people attending the playdate with the sole purpose of helping. If you want the full pampering experience, you are more than welcome to hire people who specialize in pamper parties and playdates. Here are a few ideas to help you plan your pamper playdate.

Homemade organic facials:
Facials are exciting! It’s healthy for the skin, and a cool snack for kids to wear on their face. I wouldn’t suggest allowing your little ones to wear it longer than ten minutes. Here are a few recipes:
Berry Smoothie Facial: Ingredients: 1/2 cup plain yogurt, 1/2 cup blueberries, 1 teaspoon honey, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1/3 teaspoon almond extract
Banana Bread Facial Mask: Ingredients: 1 ripe banana, 2 tablespoon oats, 1/2 tablespoon orange juice, 1 tablespoon almond milk, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 2 tablespoon whole wheat flour

Fruity Facial: Ingredients: 1/2 papaya (peeled, sliced, no seeds, chilled), 1/2 cups diced pineapple(chilled), 1/2 cup green tea (cooled), 1/4 cup honey

Moms here is the perfect time for you and your little ones to relax. According to huggies.com, “Experts say that massaged infants are more active and gain weight faster. In addition, massage releases muscular tension created by motor skills acquisition, may calm anxious babies and relieve symptoms of colic, contributes to brain and motor development and supports learning appropriate posture and movement patterns”.

Healthy snacks:
It’s not a playdate without snacks!

 Activities:
Set up several stations with different activities around the room. Feel free to create your own activities. Here's a list of Lilly bears favorite activities:

1. Gumball Necklace
2. Fruit Loop Necklace
3. Homemade Picture Frames
4. Pedicures & Manicures

At Home Playdates (Are you prepared?)

When a mom asks you over for a playdate, do you usually redirect the playdate to a public setting? Playdates in public settings, are a lot easier than playdates in a home environment from my personal experience. The best thing to do, is wipe away the fear and start asking questions. As moms, it’s our job to eliminate as many surprises and make sure our children are safe. Here are some great questions to start with: Do any of the children have food or pet allergies. Are there any pets in the home, if so, how many and what kind? Inquire if anyone smokes in the home. Are guns in a safe place and locked away, if owned. What is the parent discipline methods? Next, discuss house rules with your child prior to the playdate. Moms make sure no feet on the furniture. No games to make your child play alone (avoid technology). Avoid bringing child’s favorite toy; the child may not be willing to share. Always pack your own snacks, and bring extra. Clean up after your own child, and help clean up after the playdate is over. Do not leave your host's home a mess.

Playdate Picture Time!

Post your favorite picture from your past playdate.
Feel free to give fun details!

Lilly Bear and I, was delighted to be invited for a playdate at the Michigan Science Center by a group of amazing moms. We had a blast, and the science center offered activities for all ages. However, we were having such a good time, I wasn’t able to take a lot of good pictures.

I strongly suggest that all moms who are ever in the Detroit area to schedule a playdate at the Michigan Science Center.

For more info visit the Michigan Science Center website.

Don't forget to post your pictures...

Why Playdate?

Most people run at the idea of a playdate. Why deal with more kids? What if I don’t like the parent? It’s very easy to look at all the negatives, but face it mom’s, we all need a little break, and conversation outside of Disney and toddler sing-a-longs. Playdates not only allow your child to meet new friends and play, but it also allow us moms to have relatable conversations with other moms who are glad to not be singing “Let it go” for the millionth time.
It’s very common to be nervous, but just like any other date, it’s always best to come prepared. I strongly suggest starting off with familiar faces and then branching off. If you know a mom, who has other mom friends, take the extra step to invite them all for a group playdate.  Don’t worry! “Moms Who Playdate” will make you a play dating pro.
